Updates: Some of you may know that I am a physical therapist by day, and Jiu Jitsu instructor by night 🥋... but some of you may not. While I have a passion for physical therapy and helping others increase their quality of life, I also share a second passion with my husband, which is teaching the martial art of Jiu Jitsu, and Jiu Jitsu Therapy is in the middle of an expansion! I also got promoted to purple belt a few weeks ago! Please pardon the dust while we expand (this is in my Watsonville location). While owning and running 2 businesses keeps me on my toes and very busy, I also think it's important for me to continue to learn and grow professionally in the physical therapy profession as this allows me to provide up-to-date, high-quality care for you all. Therefore, I enrolled in a post-graduate fellowship in orthopedic physical therapy this summer. It is a 3 year-long program, and I am very excited to continue learning so that I can provide the best care possible for my patients. This fellowship also has an emphasis on education and research, which are other passions I'm looking forward to doing more of. Thank you for taking the time to read this! Dr. Adriana P. Mesa, PT, DPT, OCS Doctor of Physical Therapy Board Certified in Orthopedic Physical Therapy Fellow-in-Training - Bellin College

I decided to open up my own, very small (just me!) physical therapy private practice at the beginning of 2018 after working for 9 years in other private clinics in the Santa Cruz area. It was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done, but after I did I couldn’t help but wonder “Why didn’t I do this sooner?” I now get to treat patients one-on-one (no aides, no assistants) for AS LONG as I want. It truly is a dream come true, and I could not be happier. 😀. I started out at Santa Cruz Strength in January 2018, with a small treatment office (picture below on the right) and I love it there. Santa Cruz Strength provides a great environment for anyone to join and get going on their strength/fitness/health journey, which complements my treatment approach 100% : Get moving! Movement is medicine. 🏋️♂️ A few months after that I embarked on another business adventure with my husband, Raul Quintero 🥋 to open up Jiu Jitsu Therapy (picture on the bottom left), and to have another space for a second physical therapy office! We decided to do this in Watsonville because there is not a lot of options/access to physical therapy there. Also being that there are lot of monolingual Spanish speakers in Watsonville, and I speak Spanish, well it just made sense :) The Watsonville location is a work in progress, but we are hoping to be up and running by September 2018. What a year! Did I mention we also got married in the middle of all this? Guess where we spent our Honeymoon?! 😂
